Carrier AC error codes – VRF Full DC Inverter - indoor units

14 codes from the Carrier service manual, with what each one means and the usual causes. Hi-wall and cassette use some codes differently (E0) - check the indoor type.

You can safely switch the unit off at the switch, wait 5 minutes and switch on again. Don't open the unit, touch wiring or handle gas: these checks need a trained technician.

FE

No address at first power-on

What our technician checks
  • X Power IDU: auto addressing (set SW6, power off/on ODU+IDU, wait 6-12 min) or manual. Others: manual addressing by remote after re-powering ODU.

E0

Hi-wall: outdoor power supply fault (phase loss/sequence). Cassette: mode conflict

What our technician checks
  • Hi-wall: check ODU supply & phase (see ODU E1). Cassette: match IDU mode to the system (heating has priority).

E1

Indoor-outdoor communication error

What our technician checks
  • Check P-Q-E communication wire for open/short (measure resistance), daisy-chain (hand-in-hand) layout, shielding, distance from power cables, lamps/transformers nearby, wire length. All IDUs powered? Duplicate addresses? Voltage P/Q to E about DC 2.5 V (0 V or 5 V = 485 chip faulty). 485 chip 13089 on IDU board.

E5

Hi-wall: T3 / T4 / discharge T7 sensor fault

What our technician checks
  • Check the outdoor sensors.

E6

Hi-wall: mode conflict

What our technician checks
  • Heating has priority in a 2-pipe system
  • cooling IDUs conflict when another is heating.

IDU dead

Indoor board has no power

What our technician checks
  • TRANS IN 220 V
  • transformer output AC 14.5 V (brown), AC 10.5 V (yellow)
  • 7085 regulator DC +5 V / +12 V.
